Visit the Best Little Zoo
The Belize Zoo was started in 1983, as a last ditch effort to provide a home for a collection of wild animals which had been used in making documentary films about tropical forests.
It exhibits over 170 animals, representing over 45 species, all native to Belize. The zoo keeps animals which were orphaned, rescued, born at the zoo, rehabilitated animals, or sent to The Belize Zoo as donations from other zoological institutions.
The zoo is a non- government , non profit organization focused on wildlife conservation so through wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education.
Location: Off George Price Highway
What you’ll see: Tapirs, Toucans Boa constrictors, Harpy Eagles, Jaguars, and Howler monkeys are just a few of the native animals that call the zoo their home. All wildlife is native to the region.
What to Bring: Comfortable clothing, sturdy walking shoes, insect repellent, bottled water, sunblock, money for souvenirs, Don’t forget to bring your camera!!!!!
